Mini Missions

How It Works

The mini missions are smaller tasks that can be done between the major missions set up by the Witches. These missions are built to be completed by multiple people or groups.
To 'claim' a mission, just fill in the plotting comment textbox at the bottom of this entry with the missions that you're intending to complete and tag around to plot with others.
To complete a mission, simply thread it out on the logs community, post on the network to find people to go with, or otherwise play out the mission. There is a mini mission submissions thread below where you can submit what you did on your mission. Be creative! The missions are prompts, and you can feel free to embellish as much as you'd like - if you have questions about something you'd like to do, just post them to the questions thread!

Propaganda: Media

Difficulty: low
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: To collect footage of anything 'nice' that can be seen around the camp, and to interview NPC characters who might offer touching stories about their involvement with the rebels -or- create posters with propaganda slogans.
Possible Outcome: Footage will be edited and added to propaganda videos for all to see; posters will be printed in the hundreds to be distributed; will tie in to next month's major mission. Dangers: Just embarrassment, social anxiety, and possible verbal clashes with NPCs if they don't agree with the propaganda effort.

The rebels have decided to instate a new project - creating propaganda to try to encourage average citizens in Zephyr to join the cause. These will consist of videos and posters that the rebels plan to disseminate in the city through various methods. Watch out, though, because this is a controversial mission plan and not everyone in the Camp agrees with it, and some disagree more than others. NPCs approached for footage, interviews, or who catch characters making signs may start verbal confrontations or even mild fisticuffs over it.

Characters are invited to scour the Camp with their device's video function, or for those with more prowess around a video camera, with provided equipment, in search of those little moments that brighten people's days. Children playing with a ball, someone helping an old lady across the street, cute couples on dates, that sort of thing. Characters will be provided with release forms to offer to people either before or after the footage is taken, so that all footage is used legally and with permission.

Characters are also invited to interview NPCs around the Camp for stories of how they joined the rebellion, why they fight, and any relief or other help provided to them by the rebels. Remember those test subjects you rescued from the trucks early on? They might be a good start to finding positive stories that portray the rebellion in a good light. Again, characters will be provided with release forms so everything is on the up and up.

Too socially anxious to interview random people or not interested, but still want to participate in the propaganda effort? Well, there's been a huge selection of arts and crafts supplies set up in a couple of the larger board rooms, and characters are invited to create a poster (or two, or three!) with their own unique stories, slogans, and images that support the cause or portray the rebellion in a positive light. These posters can be done in any unique style, and characters are encouraged to bring their own culture and personality into it!

Propaganda: Drama Class

Difficulty: low to moderate
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: Participate in choreographed fight scenes or re-enactments of rebel stories for propaganda films.
Possible Outcome: You'll be featured in one of the upcoming propaganda films for all to see; ties into next month's major mission.
Dangers: Social anxiety and risk of embarrassment, if your character suffers from such things.

Incidental footage and interviews aren't the only part of making propaganda films. Creative minds at Central Command have come up with a variety of staged scenes that can be acted out by characters, who are encouraged to bring their acting skills into the mix and/or help out with filming and writing of new scenes, if they're the creative type.

Most of the scenes will be epic fights between rebels and 'Sylphid' attackers, with those cast as 'Sylphid' to portray them as callous, evil creatures intent on stealing the souls of everyone around them, and those cast as rebels to portray them as heroic, good, and just. The fight scenes require a certain amount of athleticism and the ability to memorize choreography.

There will also be dramatic scenes filmed that are essentially re-enactments of some of the good stories captured in interviews by anyone completing the first mission. These will require acting with a lot of emotion, to make a real impact on those viewing the videos. There will also be the opportunity to do voiceovers and other incidental filming as extras or voice act animated characters.

Not skilled at acting? There's still room for characters to get into the writer's room and pen their own scenes, voiceovers, and dramatic speeches. If they lack that kind of creative skill, they can also be given a quick training session and get behind the camera or lighting and sound boards.

The Weather Wizards

Difficulty: moderate to high
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: To stop a widespread group of 'weather wizards' from creating chaotic weather in the Witches Camp.
Possible Outcome: Chaotic weather in the city will be stopped and things will go back to normal.
Dangers: Being attacked by weather wizards with a variety of elemental attacks.

Characters will have noticed that the weather lately is just whack. Sudden snowstorms, heatwaves, and torrential rain have been appearing and disappearing at a moment's notice. One moment there will be a snowstorm of blizzard proportions and the next the sun will be beating down hot and heavy, the next it will be pouring rain or there will be hail the size of baseballs or there will be a windstorm that knocks out power to a few blocks of the Camp. The strangest thing about this weather is that it's appearing in small areas, maybe a few blocks in circumference.

Characters will be informed by Central Command that this is all due to a Tether-Tok trend that's going around the Camp right now - Tians with any kind of elemental or weather magic, as well as any Hebas with weather or air pressure abilities are causing these mini maelstroms of aberrant weather 'for the tok,' as it were. Anyone who creates chaotic weather in an area large enough to cause distress to the people living there and films a short Tether-Tok video of the chaos that ensues is hailed as 'meme royalty' and given a lot of clout among the younger members of the Camp.

Characters are asked to hunt down these off-the-rails Tether-Tokkers and stop them from creating aberrant weather. Be careful, though, because some of them are so intent on being 'meme royalty' and going viral that they'll fight back, with whatever magic or ability is at their disposal.

The New Arrivals

Difficulty: high
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: Rescue new arrivals from a research facility at the edge of Sylphid territory.
Possible Outcome: Bring new arrivals back to the Witches Camp.
Dangers: Warfare with the Sylphid.

A new outpost of Broken World Research has been discovered just outside city limits, buried deep in the jungle with just a dirt track leading to it. Broken World Research is the firm that is responsible for the complex device that brought the extradimensional visitors to the planet, and their facilities often house newly arrived extradimensional visitors and their belongings. This particular facility has been deemed as vulnerable due to its remote location and a distinct lack of security - though the scouts have also stated that it may be a trap, due to that same lack of security.

Characters are provided with weapons and stealth gear, and tasked with infiltrating the facility in whatever way suits them best, to rescue the new arrivals and loot for any items that may belong to current extradimensional visitors. There are several points of entry, as with most buildings - through the sewers, vent systems, windows, and through the front door if you're not feeling subtle.

But be prepared, while this wasn't necessarily a trap, the security in the building is better than anticipated and there are Sylphid troops on guard. No matter how stealthy you are, there's likely to be a fire fight...

Name: Blue
Character Name: Link
Mission(s) Accepted: Definitely the Propaganda missions. He could maybe do the other two as well, if anyone's keen.
Plotting Ideas:
This is a bit adjacent to the mini-missions themselves, but I'm planning for Link to be start manifesting his Heba power, which is Memory Projection, during these. Basically, at random times Link will accidentally project either his memories, or someone else's. This is all very optional, but let me know if it's something you're up for.

Link will also be hilariously bad at the propaganda missions. The Drama Class one because he has minimal ability to emote, let alone act. The Media one because Link's idea of 'nice' stuff includes things like 'bugs' and 'mushrooms' and 'horses'. He may inadvertently a film a cooking channel.

Name: Dragon

Character Name: Elma
Mission(s) Accepted: Yes
Plotting Ideas:
  • Media: This hits Elma where she lives, and she's going to play it very straight: doing interviews and capturing slice-of-life aspects. She's pretty terrible at the former, though; her interviews are end up going to be brisk and military affairs, and she could really use some assistance on drilling down to the gentler aspects of life.
  • Drama: She can definitely fight, and can even take on a different appearance to play a Sylphid. The biggest problem may be her pride, since as a Sylphid she's supposed to lose, but nonetheless she's someone for you heroic sorts to pair off against.
  • Weather: This is one Elma would prefer to follow someone else's lead on, because she would rather provide muscle and let someone else decide how to handle it. (long story about motivations goes here)
  • New Arrivals: This is Elma's bread and butter, something she'll go in on without hesitation and whatever mixture of stealth and violence is necessary. She's who you go with if you want a competent partner.

  • Character Name: Morgan
    Mission(s) Accepted: Yes
    Plotting Ideas:
  • Media: Morgan is all in on this and totally willing to contribute to other people's videos, primarily by doing hard work without a shirt on. Look, he knows what people like.
  • Drama: Please please please do some ridiculous martial-arts spar straight out of wuxia or Ip Man with him. He will be so happy.
  • Weather: Morgan is the sort to resolve this sort of thing as peacefully as possible. Either he's a like-minded person who will be a relief, or ideologically and a source of argument and friction on this mission. Gasp!
  • New Arrivals: Let's get ourselves into a bad situation!

    Name: Thalia
    Character Name: Dakota "Codi" Perkins
Mission(s) Accepted: Both of the Propaganda missions (emphasis on the first one over the second), New Arrivals, and kind of the Weather Wizards, unintentionally
    Plotting Ideas:
    • Propaganda: Holy shit this is so far up Codi's wheelhouse, she's gonna be ecstatic. She'll happily be the face for someone's recording to terrorize interview the rebels, do the legwork to hand out permission flyers, give advice on tastefully editing footage to remove anything said that isn't quite so flattering, etc. She would also be interested in reenactment scenes as long as they make her look good lmao
    • New Arrivals: These infiltration missions are starting to become Codi's bread-and-butter, although after how much of a cluster the last big mission went for her, I think she'd prefer a less bombastic approach than usual. She's absolutely still Team Front Door but she'll try to rely more on her magic and strategic planning to make sure all of their exits are covered before just marching in like usual.
    • Weather Wizards: So let's say, hypothetically, Codi saw this blossoming Tether-Tok craze happening, and she's learning some electricity/thunder magic, so she decided to maybe get involved herself to add some dramatic lightning effects to some rain wizards' spells for mentions on her own Tether-Tok page. And now she's hearing that this is a bad thing?? So uh. Who wants to team up with her on some extremely targeted sting missions where she backstabs some of the wizards she was working with, and wonder how she knows who all of them are and where they live?

Sooo I'm thinking Link and Codi for the Drama Class mission could be fun. Cause hey, if Codi's still feeling sore about how their sparring went - maybe seeing just how much she outclasses him in this arena will make her feel better? XD (Unless she just gets even more annoyed at him for how bad he is...)

    [personal profile] maskedtyrant 2022-11-09 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I am very down for this!! Codi practicing infinite patience to try and get Link to choreograph the right scenes, eventually gives up and then just tries to get him to fight something for real so they can finally get a good shot lmao

    [personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2022-11-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha yeah, Actual Fight Scenes are probably the only thing Link would be good at...

Are you want to make a post yourself for this? I've not, I've just put one up - I haven't got an open prompt for the Drama Club one, but I could write up one for Codi to add to it.

Also, at the moment I'm having Link's Memory projection power making itself known during missions. So if you're up for it, that could also come into play here.

I'm going to make a post for Codi's general during-the-month activities, including for the mini missions, so I could add this to hers! Or if you can get to it first I will not argue with that lol. Planning on posting later today.

    Name: Revise
    Character Name: Mikumo
Mission(s) Accepted: Propaganda: Media, The Weather Wizards, The New Arrivals
    Plotting Ideas:
-Mikumo has not quite done propaganda before, but back home she works alongside a civilian military unit and has to help craft a positive public image for them and for Walkure, so she won't consider this too far removed. That said, since she's extremely recognisable, she's going to be staying out of actual film content herself. Either way, she can help people who are less used to doing film and media type stuff.
-Since Mikumo's Heba ability involves being able to manipulate water, she may be able to dunk some memelords with their own weather systems or otherwise help in breaking them up. She has very little patience for general idiocy, so if it comes to having to fight it out with people she'll do it, but she might benefit from someone more inclined to be diplomatic.
-Mikumo's done new arrivals stuff a few times by now, so she's got a decent amount of experience there and is much more inclined to go the stealth route than try and go right through the front door or what have you.

As an aside, Mikumo reaches her third month without a Tether this month, so if any Tians she has at least some kind of CR with are interested in Tethering with her, this would be a good time.
