Mini Missions

How It Works

The mini missions are smaller tasks that can be done between the major missions set up by the Witches. These missions are built to be completed by multiple people or groups.
To 'claim' a mission, just fill in the plotting comment textbox at the bottom of this entry with the missions that you're intending to complete and tag around to plot with others.
To complete a mission, simply thread it out on the logs community, post on the network to find people to go with, or otherwise play out the mission. There is a mini mission submissions thread below where you can submit what you did on your mission. Be creative! The missions are prompts, and you can feel free to embellish as much as you'd like - if you have questions about something you'd like to do, just post them to the questions thread!

Resources: Freshwater Fish

Difficulty: moderate
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: To hunt and capture or kill creatures in the large lake that provides fish and other fresh water food to the Witches Camp.
Possible Outcome: An influx of extra delicious freshwater creatures to feast on.
Dangers: Being eaten alive or otherwise partially eaten by pirhana-like lake creatures.

After the excesses of the Winter Celebration and the sales that surround it, characters may notice that there are a lot of "Sold Out" signs on things that had previously been pretty ubiquitous. One of the things that's definitely sold out and in high demand is the 'seafood' sections of the grocery stores and bodegas in the Witches Camp. While 'seafood' isn't the right name for it because it's mostly farmed from the very large lake that borders the Witches Camp to the northwest, it's treated as such. There are large fish, crawdads, lobster-like creatures, and many other types of 'seafood' available.

Or at least there used to be.

After a few days of this situation, there is a mission posted in Central Command on the general board asking for people to volunteer to deal with the situation. As it turns out, an invasive species possibly introduced by the Sylphid, have been eating the regular residents of the lake. The species are piranha-like fish that are around 2 feet in length, with razor sharp fangs and teeth that are highly carnivorous and will eat almost anything. The mission? To clear these fish out of the lake, at least mostly, to allow for the safe and sustainable fishing and fish farming to resume and supply the city.

Anyone who participates will be gifted a large freshwater lobster ready to be cooked up and eate (and the kitchen at Central Command will definitely cook that up for you if you can't cook it yourself).

Resources: Farm Life

Difficulty: moderate to high
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: To hunt and capture or kill creatures on the farms that provide meat, dairy, and vegetables to the Witches Camp.
Possible Outcome: An influx of fresh meat, dairy items, and vegetables to feast on.
Dangers: Being stalked and hunted or injured by wolf-lizard creatures or stomped on by big herbivores.

Much like the 'seafood,' many of the other types of whole food in the Camp have been sold out and out of stock - beef, pork, chicken, mutton, goat, and other types of meat, as well as dairy and lots of different types of fruits and vegetables have been unavailable. This is also affecting other types of item that are dependent on farming and animal husbandry like leather goods. This is possibly more of a problem than just the 'seafood' being out of stock. A lot of these items are vital for life in the Camp.

As the problem escalates, another mission is very shortly posted on a board at Central Command asking for volunteers to help with the situation. A couple of types of invasive land-based species have been released into the farm areas that are placed to the north of the Witches Camp, probably by the Sylphid. The two species are specialized to decimate fruit and vegetable farming and livestock farming.

The first species is a large wolf-sized lizard type creature that hunts animals in packs and has nearly bottomless stomachs, a constant need for food. These creatures roam around the edges of livestock farms and pick off animals constantly, eating entire cows and other livestock whole. The second species is a large herbivorous species with a sort of endless hunger that eats fruits and vegetables specifically, grazing on vegetables, tearing up tubers, chowing down on fungus, and picking fruit off of trees with their trunks. The size of rhinoceroses and about as well-armored, they have large tusks, horns on their foreheads, and trunks that are highly flexible and nimble, able to select the actual fruits and vegetables off the plants before also consuming the plants themselves for roughage. Both species are more than willing to fight when threatened, and both are very capable of doing serious damage.

The mission? Eliminate these two invasive species in the wildest hunting trip of the year.

Dragonet Hoards

Difficulty: moderate to high
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: To hunt and raid the hoards of a group of dragonets that have been stealing items from the various outdoor markets and other trinkets and treasure.
Possible Outcome: This is a treasure hunt - characters may keep any trinkets, treasures, small magical items, money, or other items they find.
Dangers: Dragonets are dangerous and have a poison bite that will kill you if not treated within 4 hours. Symptoms are pain, throbbing headache, disorientation, nausea, and eventual loss of consciousness.

The other new mission that has been posted up on the boards at Central Command and texted out to rebel phones is one more aimed at the treasure hunter in the ranks, although it is in the interest of eradicating another somewhat invasive species, though not one that was introduced by the Sylphid. The species in question would be a colony of drgonets that have been wreaking havoc over the last couple of years by stealing things. Like two-foot-long magpies, the dragonets fly over the city and dive to take anything that catches their eye, mostly shiny things or things that people show interest in. This can range from things like jewelry or purses to money itself to food that looks especially tasty. They then bring it back to their nests in the dragonet colony built in the low mountains to the southwest of the Camp, where they use the items to decorate and generally just hoard.

Rather than eradicating the species as with the other missions, in this case all that's being requested is a little thinning out of the number of dragonets in the colony, and retrieval of as much of the colony's stolen goods as possible. Knowing that this mission is being posted up this month, many people have posted fliers at the Central Command offering rewards for sentimental or valuable items that have been stolen by the dragonets over the past year or two.

The rewards for this mission are pretty simple - hunt down the items with rewards offered in order to collect those rewards, or keep whatever treasures you find in the dragonet colony. As a bonus, dragonet pieces are widely used in magic, specifically alchemy and potions-making, as well as by the pharmaceutical industry for health supplements and vital medications. Since the mission calls for thinning out the dragonet population to keep them from becoming a bona fide pest, these parts could be harvested and sold to various businesses in the Camp.

The New Arrivals

Difficulty: high
Suitability: chipped or stripped
Objective: Rescue new arrivals from a research facility at the edge of Sylphid territory.
Possible Outcome: Bring new arrivals back to the Witches Camp.
Dangers: Warfare with the Sylphid.

A new outpost of Broken World Research has been discovered just outside city limits, buried deep in the jungle with just a dirt track leading to it. Broken World Research is the firm that is responsible for the complex device that brought the extradimensional visitors to the planet, and their facilities often house newly arrived extradimensional visitors and their belongings. This particular facility has been deemed as vulnerable due to its remote location and a distinct lack of security - though the scouts have also stated that it may be a trap, due to that same lack of security.

Characters are provided with weapons and stealth gear, and tasked with infiltrating the facility in whatever way suits them best, to rescue the new arrivals and loot for any items that may belong to current extradimensional visitors. There are several points of entry, as with most buildings - through the sewers, vent systems, windows, and through the front door if you're not feeling subtle.

But be prepared, while this wasn't necessarily a trap, the security in the building is better than anticipated and there are Sylphid troops on guard. No matter how stealthy you are, there's likely to be a fire fight...
